About Miramar’s Journey

Miramar Tokatli

Miramar’s journey with dance began before words or footsteps—born in Syria, she grew up surrounded by the rhythms of the Middle East, where music and movement were a natural language of life. From the vibrant pulse of Dabke to the soulful sway of Samai, from the storytelling depth of Tarab to the earthy Bedouin traditions, dance became the way she connected to herself, her people, and her culture.

For more than 13 years, Miramar has carried these roots with her across borders and oceans. From her early days performing in Syria, to rebuilding a life and artistic path in Australia, and later continuing her journey in France, she has shared her art on stages both intimate and grand.

But for Miramar, dance is more than performance—it is connection. Her style is a living expression of her heritage: fluid, honest, and deeply human. She blends the grace of oriental dance with the richness of folkloric tradition, creating a tapestry of movement that honors her past while speaking to the present.

As a teacher, she invites students not only to learn the steps, but to unlock movement from within, offering a rare depth of cultural knowledge and an embodied connection to the art of dance.

Her students describe her classes as a joyful immersion not only into movement, but into culture, connection, and self-discovery.

Dance, for Miramar, is not just art—it is home.
